A Gift of Ivens films

Recently the Ivens Foundation received six reels of a working copy of The 17th Parallel (1968). Laurence Lefèvre gave these reels to André Stufkens in her place in Montreuil. She got this working copy from her sister, the late Liliane Korb, who passed away in 2022. At the age of 26 Liliane Korb edited this long documentary about the peoples war and fight for independence of the Vietnamese people against the US occupation. The 16th Bueu International Film Festival pays tribute to Joris Ivens with both a retrospective of his short films and a splendid monograph on Ivens, written by Severiano Casalderrey. This book will be presented on Sunday 17th of Sepyember, it is the very first monograph on Ivens in the Galician language: La Expansion del documental a través de los cortometrajes de Joris Ivens (1898-1989).

Indonesia Calling at Independence Day Ceremony MuSeaum Sydney

On 17 August the MuSeaum in Sydney - aka the Australian National Maritime Museum - will organize a ceremony to commemorate Independence day of the Republic of Indonesia. Next to the presentations Ivens' short documentary film Indonesia Calling will be screened. This deals with various forms of solidarity between the Netherlands and Quang Tri province over half a century (1972 - 2022). Looking for my father in an Ivens film

Recently a citizen from Montpellier travelled 1200 kilometres to visit the Joris Ivens Archives in order to find his biological father. There are many reasons why people around the world consult the Ivens collection, but this is a very special and personal one. He wanted to look for his father, which he has never known and met, in Ivens’ documentary Peace Will Win (1951)

The European Foundation Joris Ivens scanned and archived the entire photo collection. Fifty-two boxes full of pictures taken by Ivens where digitized. There are photos taken from Ivens during meetings, on the set, visiting world leaders and famous artists and filmstills collected by Ivens or others.

The documents in the paper archive were scanned already some years ago and during the making of the DVD box most films were restored and digitized. Now that the photos are scanned almost all the material that the European Foundation Joris Ivens has in the archive is stored digitally. The next step is to provide acces to the material. We are working on a way to present it online.

The popularity of Ivens is still strong. Continually international interest is shown through diverse projects. Scholars that work on publications about Ivens collect important information through our collection. International festivals program Ivens films with our help and use material from us for publications that accompany the screenings. The expectation is that the online archive will be used intensively.
