Subsidy 2001-2004

For the period of 1997-2001 the European Foundation Joris Ivens receives an annual grant of Fl 200,000 from the Dutch Department of Education, Culture and Science. This amount has been awarded on the basis of an approved policy plan. A large part of this plan has been carried out: association with professional archives: namely the Municipal Archives of Nijmegen; disclosing the collection; making the inventory of the Joris Ivens Archives and the publication of its Dutch and English edition; restoration of posters and the acquisition of collections from abroad.

Next year the scanning and digitalizing of the 11,000 photographs has been programmed and the inventory of the many new collections, which will take some more years. A new subsidy will be asked by the the Foundation for the following Arts plan 2001-2004. Moreover we would like to realise new plans. The Board and Marceline Loridan-Ivens, the rightful owner of the films, have decided to publish an international video collection with a selection of Ivens’s film classics from his entire oeuvre for the international market. At the same time a research programme will be started to map Joris Ivens’s film oeuvre in a scientific way: both the films he realised and the many plans that were not realised. This filmography project, co-ordinated by the Foundation will be realised in co-operation with international film archives, institutions and film academics. Meanwhile the Film Museum in Amsterdam and several film archives abroad have expressed their purpose to be willing to co-operate. It may be assumed that it will lead to surprising finds.

The Department of Education, Culture and Science attaches great value on international spread of Dutch art and culture. The past few years the European Foundation Joris Ivens has proved to be able to support the many international film programmes concerning about Ivens as for contents, organisation and programme in an excellent way.
