Homage Jan de Vaal

date: 1/7/2010

Amsterdam University Press released a book about the first film animator Arthur Melbourne-Cooper They Thought it was a Marvel!  by Tjitte de Vries en Ati Mul Theusday. In their speech the autors payed their honour to Jan de Vaal (1922-2001) founder and head of  the Dutch Filmmuseum during the first 40 years.

“I would love to read a book about Jan de Vaal and his passion for conserving films. By founding the filmmuseum Jan -despite all opposition- lay the foundation for one of the worlds must varied collections of early nitrate film in the world.”
André Stufkens (Head of the Ivens Foundation), prof. dr. Bert Hogenkamp, Frans Westra (Filmtheater Images) and others already called for a publication and Homage. Jan de Vaal is, together with Ivens, the founder of the Joris Ivens Archive.
