Extensive Ivens retrospective at DOK Leipzig 2009

The German edition of the Ivens DVD collection, Joris Ivens – Weltenfilmer, will be released on 28 October 2009 at the Leipzig festival (5 o’clock PM). Together with this celebrating event DOK Leipzig will screen twenty-one films from Ivens.

‘The retrospective for one of the greatest directors in the history of film and founding fathers of the Leipzig Festival shows how political contents can be combined with poetic form. Apart from cineaste classics and world famous masterpieces, the programme also presents some works recently re-discovered in the Federal Archive; a result of the doc film giant’s cooperation with DEFA. Major historic movements of the 20th century, philosophical reflections and always a firm stance – wrapped in pure poetry and beauty.’
