The most beautiful
In October Film magazine
Skrien published an 'definitive poster top 40'of the all time best posters
of Dutch films. Paul van Yperen and Bastiaan Anink, experts on posters, chose
the poster for PHILIPS RADIO, designed by Anneke van der Feer in 1931 from the
Joris Ivens Archives as the best. Although traditional means as charcoal and
paint were used for the design and it was traditionally lithographed, its style
closely follows the photomontage and typography of the New Realism, in Holland
introduced by Piet Zwart and Paul Schuitema. The absence of people, the striking
diagonal placing - also called 'Russian line' - and close-ups of the Philips
products emphasize the avant-garde atmosphere of the film. A Dutch 'Modern Times'.
