Kees Bakker worked on the inventory of the Joris Ivens Archives for the past few years. The material of this collection has been deposited with the Foundation by Marceline Loridan-Ivens and consists of the records that were collected by Joris Ivens himself together with the initial administrators Jan and Tineke de Vaal. The total collection consists of 22 linear metres of boxes containing documents and besides more than 6,000 photographs and 248 posters and objects.
The inventory has been finished now, so that with the help of the definitive inventory the Joris Ivens Archives has been made accessible to the public. Researchers can consult the list of available documents with the help of a computer. This list is divided into categories such as 'articles of a general nature', 'articles of a particular nature' and separate film projects.
Documents, such as letters, talks, lectures, diaries, publications, scenarios, shotlists, etc. can be simply found down to the smallest detail. Shortly the Joris Ivens Archives can be consulted world wide as the full inventory can be read on the internet page of the Foundation.
The photograph collection and the newspaper cuttings have been described , but not yet opened up. The next step will be to open up the collections of Hans Ivens, Miep balguerie-Guérin, Marion Michelle, Ewa Fiszer, Hans Wegner, Jan en Tineke de Vaal and parts of the private collection of Marceline Loridan-Ivens. Then everything will be put on microfiche.
The poster collection will be restored by Willemien Jansen in the workshop of the Nijmegen Municipal Archives.
