About the film:

What can you tell about this film? With their documentary film Ciutat Morta Metromuster made a chilling account of police violence and judicial cover-ups in the so-called '4F case'. On the 4th of February 2006 Barcelona police broke up an outdoor party in the heart of the city. In the violence that ensued, one police officer was left quadriplegic and five people were detained. This documentary reveals that those five were heavily tortured and had nothing to do with the case.

How does this film relate to the theme ‘politics and poetry’ in your opinion? First of all, this film brings a gripping tale and is expertly told. No one will be left unmoved after watching it. What is at least as impressive is that, against all odds, the filmmakers managed to bring national and international attention to the 4F case. The film and its story were initially ignored, but thanks to the combination of great filmmaking and community organizing the film took center stage in the public debate.
For us this is an inspiring example of how arts and politics can make a powerful combination with real life results.

Are politics and poetry (or politics and arts) two separate worlds according to you? Why / why not? Ideology and arts are not supposed to be mixed, the results are seen as eather bad art or bad politics. To us this view is contradictory as it imposes an ideology itself.

Besides the theme of ‘Politics and poetry’ are there any other comparisons between this artist and Ivens according to you? The filmmakers at Metromuster choose very consciously for a radical stance in their filmmaking, just as Ivens never apologised for choosing sides.
