This year, the Seville European Film Festival is turning a special spotlight on films made in Holland with one of the largest selections from this country ever shown in a festival. Special attention goes out to Joris Ivens with a retrospective of six films. Marceline Loridan-Ivens is present at the festival and will give a master class as part of the Festival-Campus programme. The Seville European Film Festival 2010 will take place from 5 to 13 November.

The festival shows in a special program section Tulipanes Salvajes (Wild Tulips) the most recent Dutch cinema, with feature films, documentaries, short films and animations. Part of the Ivens retrospective are The Bridge,17th parallele, 400 Million, Une Histoire de Vent and La Petite Prairie aux Bouleaux from Marceline Loridan-Ivens.

The reason for choosing Holland is that in the last two editions the Silver Giraldillo was awarded to Dutch directors, Urszula Antoniak and Mijke de Jong, for “Nothing Personal” and “Katia’s Sister” respectively. So, feature films, documentaries, short films (a selection of the best ones made between 2008 and 2010), animation and historical films make up this selection, one of the widest ever shown of Dutch cinema at any festival, thanks to the collaboration of the EYE Institute and Holland Films. Strong scripts and the quality of the photography are two characteristics which have allowed a country as small as Holland to develop such an extensive film industry.

The Festival will present the section Wild Tulips in which a sample will be shown of the latest films to be produced in Holland, offering a variety of genres. Three Dutch films will be competing in the Festival’s official section.

“Joy” . After winning the Silver Giraldillo in 2008 with “Katia’s Sister”, Mijke de Jong is back at the Festival with her latest work with which she closes her trilogy on adolescents. “Joy” tells of an adolescent’s long journey as she searches for a place in life when, after being abandoned as a baby and spending many years in foster homes, she wants to find out who her mother is.

“The Happy Housewife” by Antoinette Beumer. This film tells how a woman’s life can be perfect until she is faced with maternity. It stars the well known actress Carice van Houten who was in the film “Valkyrie” with Tom Cruise and starred in Paul Verhoeven’s “The Black Book”.

“The Aviatrix of Kazbek” , by Ineke Smits. A drama with touches of a comedy and of a musical, set during the Second World War. The cast includes Ana Maria Marinka. The film is on the list of 46 films recommended by theEuropean Film Academy for its film awards this year. The nominations will be announced on 6th November during the Seville Festival.

The Wild Tulips section also includes the following titles “Bride Flight” (“Bruidsvlucht”), by Ben Sombogaart; “Johan Primero” , by Johan Kramer;“Last Conversation” , by Noud Heerkens; “Love is All” (“Alles is Liefde”), by Joram Lürsen; “Shocking Blue”, by Mark de Cloe; “The Storm” , (“De Storm”), by Ben Sombogaart; “Two Eyes Staring” (“Zwart Water”), by Elbert van Striem; “Win/Win” , by Jaap van Heusden; and the documentaries “Farewell”, by Ditteke Mensink and “The Player”, by John Appel.

There will also be an important place in the festival for Dutch short films, with the section Orange Short which will shown ten animation shorts (Animazing) and a selection of over twenty fiction shorts made in the last three years in Holland.
